Activity: Government Graphic Organizer

Materials: graphic organizer, answers to graphic organizer

Procedure:
1. Read the book together, taking time to talk about the different parts of government. Ask questions through the process to be sure that the student understands what different people do to make the government work and make the country run smoothly. Notice if the student has a different impression of what a government is, as students from different backgrounds may have experiences with a government that is different than the one in the U.S. Note: this book has President Bush as the president in the photos. Please make sure students understand that the president changes.
2. Take out the graphic organizer and the answer sheet. The answers on the answer sheet are not in any particular order. See how much of the graphic organizer the student can finish without using the book. If necessary, use the book as a reference.
3. When you are finished reading the book, choose a vocabulary activity to reinforce meaning.
